The East End has fifteen school districts for 18 hamlets, and the districts range from a one-room schoolhouse with 17 students to Hampton Bays with 2,008. Only seven run a high school. The rest end at grade 6 or 8 and send older students to a neighbor under a tuition contract, which means the high school your child attends can depend on the hamlet you rent in. The table lists all fifteen; the sections below explain the pattern. If you are renting, search year-round homes by town and match each address to its district first.

Seven districts with their own high school
The table’s last column says “Own high school” for seven districts. Bridgehampton and Shelter Island run theirs in a single building for under 200 students each.
Three that end at grade 6 and feed Westhampton Beach
Quogue, East Quogue and Remsenburg-Speonk are elementary districts. The Westhampton Beach School District says it serves students from the villages of Westhampton Beach and Quogue and the hamlets of Westhampton, East Quogue, Quiogue, Remsenburg-Speonk and East Moriches. Remsenburg-Speonk residents may instead choose Eastport-South Manor, per the district. See Westhampton Beach.
Five that send students to East Hampton
In February 2025 Montauk, Springs and Amagansett signed a five-year tuition agreement under which their graduating students attend East Hampton schools exclusively, according to The East Hampton Star, subject to voter approval and state sign-off. The Star reported that Sagaponack and Wainscott were expected to sign agreements for certain elementary and secondary grades while maintaining contracts with Bridgehampton and Sag Harbor. Wainscott’s website says its older students choose among East Hampton, Sag Harbor and Bridgehampton. See Montauk, Springs, Amagansett, Sagaponack and Wainscott.
