The Southampton Union Free School District runs three schools, from PreK through grade 12, with 1,270 students in fall 2024. Southampton Elementary serves PreK to grade 4 (364 students), Southampton Intermediate grades 5 to 8 (324) and Southampton High School grades 9 to 12 (582). If you are renting nearby, look at year-round rentals in Southampton and confirm the address is inside the district before you sign.
Registering as a tenant
The district posts its registration for 2026-2027 for grades P to 12 and a separate proof-of-residency page. It requires proof of district residency. For a tenant, the district’s list is specific:
- a statement by the landlord, owner or tenant from whom you lease or share property in the district, sworn or unsworn, or a copy of the residential lease, a notarized residency affidavit, a notarized lease or a notarized letter from the property owner; and
- any two of: a recent utility bill in your name, an income tax form showing the address, a pay stub, a driver’s license or other state ID, an insurance bill, a rent receipt or money order copy, a bank statement, a voter registration document, a government-issued document, a letter from an employer on letterhead, or other original documents.
The list also names a Shinnecock Trustees tribal verification letter, where applicable. The district’s enrollment office is reachable at 631-591-4517. The main office is at 70 Leland Ln, Southampton, NY 11968, phone (631)591-4510.
Which addresses are in the district
District lines do not follow hamlet lines. Southampton Village sits inside the district, and the district runs a transportation facility on Old Mill Road in Water Mill. For any address, ask the enrollment office to confirm in writing which district serves it. The enrolling guide explains what the state says districts may and may not require.
Where it fits
Southampton is one of seven East End districts with its own high school. See all districts and where older students go, and read the Southampton town profile for hospital, trash and rental rules in the village and town.
