April 1

The Town of East Hampton’s application says residents who self-haul household trash and designated recyclables to the Town Recycling Center buy a primary permit once a year, valid from April 1 to March 31 and not prorated. Buy in April and you get the whole year. Residents can also buy a second permit by mail.

Weather

April averages a high of 55° and a low of 38° at Bridgehampton, with 0.8 inches of snow on average, the last of the snow in the normals. At Montauk Airport the average low is 41°, warmer than the 36° at Gabreski Airport. Precipitation is 4.3 inches.

What it means for a renter

Winter rental leases that began after Labor Day end around Memorial Day weekend. A winter tenant who wants to stay past that weekend should ask the owner early whether a year-round lease is possible. The rentals page explains the cycle.

If you live here

For ticks, remember the county’s rule: they can be active whenever temperatures are above 40°F, and April highs average 55°.
